Craig Overton became the second Somerset player in as many days to take a hat-trick as they wrapped up an innings victory over Nottinghamshire at Taunton.

After Tom Abell's hat-trick on day two, Overton followed suit in just the second over of the third day to ensure Somerset's final Specsavers County Championship game of the season was a memorable one. SCORECARD

Ben Slater (49), Samit Patel (0) and Rikki Wessels (0) were the victims, all dismissed in near-identical fashion, as they nicked to Marcus Trescothick at second slip.

That left Notts 119-6 following on and they were eventually bowled out for 184, Somerset winning by an innings and 146 runs to secure second place in Division One.

Notts, meanwhile, finish sixth and stay up courtesy only on number of games won.

That is because Lancashire, whose relegation was confirmed on Tuesday, signed off in the top flight with an eight-wicket win over Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl. SCORECARD

Tom Bailey took the two Hampshire wickets remaining on day three to bowl the hosts out for 198 and leave Lancashire needing 113 to win.

Fidel Edwards removed Alex Davies (12) and Brook Guest (0) in successive balls but Keaton Jennings (40no) and Liam Livingstone (48no) blitzed the away team to their victory target in just 13 overs, leaving them to rue the 27 runs they were unable to add in their first innings that would have earned them an extra bonus point and, ultimately, kept them in Division One.

Centuries from Jason Roy and Ollie Pope have given champions Surrey hope of not only maintaining their unbeaten record but even of claiming an unlikely victory over Essex. SCORECARD

After being skittled for 67 in their first innings, Surrey began the day on 88-1 in their second innings and still more than 300 runs in arrears.

However, superb attacking hundreds from Roy (128) and Pope (114), as well as fifties from Mark Stoneman (86) and Will Jacks (52no) took them to 477-5 at stumps, a lead of 67 going into the fourth and final day.

Yorkshire rounded off their 2018 campaign with a seven-wicket win against a depleted Worcestershire attack in the County Championship encounter at Blackfinch New Road. SCORECARD

The Tykes had made sure of their Division One status for another season earlier in the match and reached a modest 134 target with more than a day to spare.

An inspired bowling performance from the Middlesex attack ruined Paul Collingwood's Durham farewell as his side went down by 57 runs in their clash at Emirates Riverside. SCORECARD

Dawid Malan's men added 100 runs to their total overnight total, despite losing a flurry of early wickets to take a lead of 166 - despite five wickets for Mark Wood.

Durham lost wickets at regular intervals in their reply as the Middlesex bowlers worked well as a unit to bowl the home side out for 109 to secure the victory, ending their season on a high note.

Craig Miles signed off his Gloucestershire career by hitting the winning runs to secure a two-wicket victory on a pulsating third and final day of the Division Two match against Derbyshire at Derby. SCORECARD

Miles, who is joining Warwickshire next season, danced down the pitch to strike the winning boundary as Gloucestershire survived a late collapse to reach their target of 179.

Benny Howell looked to have won the game with 58 but four wickets went down for 27 runs before Miles settled the contest with boundaries off leg-spinner Matt Critchley.

Leicestershire No 10 Dieter Klein hit 94 but it was not enough to prevent his side falling to defeat at Glamorgan. SCORECARD

Klein added 96 for the final wicket with Gavin Griffiths before he was lbw to Timm van der Gugten, six runs short of a maiden first-class century.

That wicket saw Leicestershire bowled out for 270 and wrapped up a 132-run with for Glamorgan.
