Division One leaders Surrey are closing in on another Specsavers County Championship victory after making Nottinghamshire follow on at the Oval.

Third-placed Notts ended the second day 83-2 in their second innings, having been dismissed for just 101 in their first go.

Surrey batsman Mark Stoneman had earlier completed his first century of the season, having been 99 overnight, and he reached 144 before being caught behind off Luke Wood as the hosts piled on 375.

Tom Curran then took 5-28 as Notts' batting line-up failed, but opener Kraigg Brathwaite battled through 100 balls in the second innings to reach stumps 39 not out. SCORECARD

Second-placed Somerset had to deal with a Yorkshire fightback at Headingley.

The visitors quickly lost their last two first-innings wickets to be dismissed for 399 but appeared to be in firm control when they reduced the White Rose to 119-5.

However, a 173-run stand between Tom Kohler-Cadmore (81) and Andy Hodd (84 not out) brought Yorkshire back into the contest, though Josh Davey (4-53) struck twice late on to leave the relegation-threatened hosts 292-7 at stumps. SCORECARD
