A welcome return to form for Stoneman, who struck 144, his first ton of the summer, as Surrey hammered Nottinghamshire by an innings to strengthen their bid for a first County Championship title since 2002. The Oval side lead Somerset by 32 points with four matches remaining.
Dent had only hit three fifties in 19 Championship innings this term heading into Gloucestershire's second dig - but found his form with an unbeaten 214 in his team's 328-run thrashing of Leicestershire as Gloucestershire recorded a third win of the campaign.
Aren't England looking for a No 3? Ian Bell staked his claim with a fantastic 204 as Warwickshire routed Glamorgan by an innings to continue their seemingly unstoppable promotion push. Bell, 36, now has four centuries for the season, something that cannot have gone unnoticed by the selectors.
Denly is another in-form No3 but has to slot in at No 4 in our XI due to the inclusion of Bell. Touted by David Lloyd as a possible England Test call-up, the Kent player followed his 106 in the win against Derbyshire with a four-wicket haul as the Canterbury side moved up to second in the second tier.
Somerset are ready to pounce on any Surrey slip-ups, with the Taunton team securing a sixth win of the season as they crushed Yorkshire by 224 runs at Headingley. Skipper Abell produced a star turn, hitting a first ton of the campaign as Somerset recovered from 29-3 in their second innings.
Relegation battles often require your big players to stand up and a match-winning unbeaten century from your captain can certainly be categorised as just that. Vilas came to the crease in the second innings at 63-4 against fellow strugglers Worcestershire and struck 107 off 190 balls to steer Lancashire to a vital six-wicket victory.
An excellent all-round performance from Gregory was the other key component to the Division One side staying in touch with Surrey at the top of the Championship. The 26-year-old contributed half-centuries in both innings and picked up 4-33 from 18 overs to help bowl Yorkshire out for 194 in their second dig and hand Somerset an important win.
There might not be too much left to play for at Bristol but Higgins continues to put in good performances. The all-rounder picked up career-best first-class match figures of 8-54 as he claimed four wickets in each innings to roll Leicestershire out cheaply.
Plenty of captains won matches for their sides this week and Patel was no exception. The spinner took seven of Glamorgan's second-innings wickets - and 10 for the match - to wrap up a simple innings-and-35-run win for the Division Two leaders.
It was a tale of two bowlers for Surrey as they continued their surge in Division One, with Curran - in his first Championship match of the season after returning to full fitness - shooting out Notts' top order as he picked up a five-wicket haul.
Having gone under the radar this year in the Championship at the London club, behind Morne Morkel, Rikki Clarke and Sam Curran's exploits, McKerr has impressed in his maiden seven first-class matches for Surrey. It was the 20-year-old who came to the fore in the second innings, as he mopped up Notts' openers and claimed the final wicket of the match.
