After a thrilling climax to the Indian Premier League, we look at back at the performances of the England players involved in the tournament - who fired and who flopped?
Alex Hales (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

Hales had to wait for his chance and responded well when it came, with successive knocks of 45, but a string of low scores meant he was soon back on the Sunrisers' bench.
Having pigeonholed himself as a white-ball specialist, this has to go down as a disappointing tournament for the Nottinghamshire batsman.

Chris Jordan (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

Another frustrating IPL for the Sussex seamer, who was unable to force his way into a Sunrisers side with plenty of bowling options and heavily reliant on the spin of Rashid Khan and Shakib Al Hasan.
Jordan certainly did not disgrace himself on his single appearance against Kings XI Punjab, conceding 31 from four overs.

Sam Billings (Chennai Super Kings)

Just as he had done on his IPL debut for Delhi Daredevils two years earlier, Billings began with a sparkling half-century - a knock of 56 in 23 balls to help CSK to victory against Kolkata.
Unfortunately, the Kent skipper never managed to build on that and found himself consigned to the bench as the Super Kings charged towards their third IPL crown.

David Willey (Chennai Super Kings)

Best figures: 1-24
A late addition to the Super Kings squad, the Yorkshire left-armer produced a strong performance on debut to take 1-24 in their win against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Willey took some punishment in his next two outings, particularly at the hands of England team-mate Buttler, and was never seen again - but he will surely be back, better for the experience.

Mark Wood (Chennai Super Kings)

Wood's first taste of IPL cricket proved to be a fleeting one - despite featuring in CSK's victory over Mumbai, his four overs were expensive and he failed to make it back into their starting line-up.
The Durham paceman opted to cut his losses, leaving India early in order to concentrate on securing a place in England's Test side. Which was probably the right move.

Tom Curran (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Curran managed to force his way into the KKR side ahead of Mitchell Johnson and made an immediate impact in their game against Rajasthan Royals by taking two wickets in as many deliveries.
There were few opportunities for the Surrey all-rounder to shine with the bat, although he did post a quick 18 in a losing cause against Mumbai Indians.
Verdict: 7/10
Jos Buttler (Rajasthan Royals)

Highest score: 95*
After a solid if unspectacular start to the tournament, Buttler's promotion to opener paid dividends as he bludgeoned five half-centuries, including an unbeaten 95 from 60 balls against eventual champions CSK.
The Lancashire batsman amassed more runs and boundaries than any other Royals player, enough to earn him a surprise recall to England's Test side for the series against Pakistan.
Verdict: 9/10
Ben Stokes (Rajasthan Royals)

One of the star IPL performers a year earlier, Stokes' tournament never really took off this time as he failed to pass 50 and flattered to deceive with the ball.
That was mitigated by some impressive efforts in the field and Stokes did at least finish on a high, returning his best IPL bowling figures of 3-15 against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Moeen Ali (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Moeen seemed in danger of becoming RCB's forgotten man, but they eventually turned to him in week six and the Worcestershire spinner responded with a tidy 1-13 against Delhi Daredevils.
Initially, Moeen struggled with the bat before a sizzling 65 - which included six sixes - against Sunrisers underlined his capability. But questions remain about his best role in the side... as ever.

Chris Woakes (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Woakes' experience with RCB was basically the reverse of his England colleague's - he started brightly with a glut of wickets, including figures of 3-36 against Kolkata Knight Riders.
But the seamer's bowling proved a little too generous in subsequent appearances and he was dropped after five games for Bangalore, prompting him to return home.
Verdict: 5/10
Liam Plunkett (Delhi Daredevils)

Plunkett made a magnificent start for the Daredevils, with a varied, economical spell yielding figures of 3-17 against Kings XI Punjab - but that was as good as it got.
As Delhi's fortunes began to slide, so did those of the Yorkshire bowler and he was savaged by CSK pair Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu in a three-over stint that cost 52 runs.

Jason Roy (Delhi Daredevils)

Rather like Plunkett, it all began so well for the Surrey opener as he demolished the Mumbai Indians attack to seal his side's victory with a breathtaking 91 not out from 53 balls.
It seemed that would be the platform for a successful tournament... but Roy could barely buy a run in his next four innings and he was left on the bench as Delhi finished bottom of the table.
Verdict: 4/10

The Barbados-born seamer began the tournament in style, winning the man-of-the-match award on his first appearance after taking 3-22 against Mumbai.
Archer followed that up with 3-26 in the next match against Sunrisers and was one of the more consistent bowlers in the tournament, finishing as the Royals' leading wicket-taker with 15.
Verdict: 8/10
