Stanley sink hapless Bulls

Image: Amond: Scored late winner

Padraig Amond broke bottom club Hereford's hearts with a late goal to hit their survival hopes as Accrington triumphed 2-1.

It looked like the Bulls would grab a much-needed point after a Will Evans goal and a superb performance from goalkeeper Dave Cornell. But Toto Nsiala's ball into the box five minutes from time was left by the Hereford defence and Amond pounced at the far post to head home. Cornell had pulled off a string of superb saves in the first half, using his legs to keep out Amond when one-on-one and then Bobby Grant hit the crossbar with the follow-up. Cornell also kept out Grant's 20-yard blast and collected a header from six yards out from the Scunthorpe loanee. Bulls forward Evans tried from distance and his deflected strike was pushed out by Stanley keeper Ian Dunbavin - Hereford's only real threat before the break. Accrington broke the deadlock two minutes after the re-start when Grant got the ball on the edge of the area and curled it low beyond the outstretched arm of Cornell for the second goal of his loan spell. Bulls boss Richard O'Kelly then changed his forward line with Delroy Facey and Sam Clucas coming on in the 54th minute. And within three minutes Evans' free-kick from 20 yards out took a deflection and wrong-footed Dunbavin for the equaliser. Either side could have grabbed a winner but it looked like Cornell would have the final say when he superbly kept out Amond from point blank range. But he could do nothing about the late winner which keeps Hereford rooted to the bottom of the table.
