James Bailey is struggling to be fit for Crewe's trip to Aldershot.
The midfielder sustained a calf injury against Shrewsbury and that forced him to miss the midweek match at Bury.
Bailey has internal bleeding and a bruised bone and it is likely he will remain on the sidelines.
Carl Martin is making progress in his recovery from the ankle injury he suffered against Shrewsbury but he also remains a doubt as he has yet to train this week. Fellow defender Danny O'Donnell is still nursing a hamstring problem.
Mat Mitchel-King and Harry Worley are likely to remain Crewe's central defensive pairing as boss Dario Gradi does not want to risk Patrick Ada.
"I don't want to put Pat in and find he's not up to it and we lose 6-0," said Gradi.
"I nearly selected him against Bury because Harry has been close to making mistakes but in the end I went with what I know best. I've not seen enough of Pat so it would be a risk picking him."
