Gunners play host to Portuguese champions

Arsenal welcome Porto to Emirates Stadium on Tuesday for the second round of UEFA Champions League fixtures. Both sides have an enviable pedigree in the competition of late, with the Gunners reaching the final in 2006 and Porto taking the crown under the guidance of Jose Mourinho two years earlier. Arsenal's youngsters made it through to the quarter-finals last season, enjoying countless glorious nights along the way, only to come up short against Premier League rivals Liverpool in the last eight. With another year under their belts, Arsene Wenger will be looking for his side to be competitive once again. They began their campaign with a 1-1 draw away at Dynamo Kiev, requiring a last-gasp leveller from William Gallas to rescue a point from a game they dominated without forcing a breakthrough. Porto, meanwhile, kicked off their bid for European glory with an impressive 3-1 demolition of Turkish giants Fenerbahce. The defence of their domestic crown has got off to a slow start, but they have been rejuvenated since securing the comprehensive success during the opening round of Champions League fixtures. The Dragons will be aware, though, that they have failed to win on English soil in 10 attempts, and slipped to a 2-0 defeat on their last visit to North London in 2006.

      Boost

Arsenal could be boosted by the return of Samir Nasri for the crunch contest. The Frenchman has been out action since late August, but has shaken off a knee injury and is back in contention. His compatriot Mikael Silvestre is also available and will be hoping to be handed his Gunners debut. However, Alex Song (hip) joins Tomas Rosicky (hamstring), Abou Diaby (thigh), Amaury Bischoff (groin) and striker Eduardo (leg) in the treatment room. Porto have been hindered by a summer overhaul of their squad which saw key men Jose Bosingwa, Ricardo Quaresma and Helder Postiga leave the club. They will, though, have main playmaker Lucho Gonzalez available after the Argentinean missed Friday's 2-0 Super Liga win over Pacos Ferreira.
