Tottenham can secure top spot in Champions League Group H against Borussia Dortmund if they match Real Madrid's result on Tuesday.

In the last round of fixtures, Spurs sensationally beat holders Real Madrid, who travel to Apoel Nicosia.

Tottenham players were called in on Sunday morning for a session after their 2-0 defeat at Arsenal and boss Mauricio Pochettino is hoping for a response in Germany.

He said: "It's always important to compete and to be focused on the next game and when you lose, it's important to play as soon as possible to change that feeling."

Team news

Tottenham manager Pochettino admitted he may rest players on Tuesday but said Danny Rose is in contention to start.

Pochettino is likely to take the chance to rotate his line-up, which could include a start for Rose, who was left out of the squad completely for Saturday's north London derby.

Harry Kane and Dele Alli were both taken off in the second half at Emirates Stadium, only a week after pulling out of the England squad with knee and hamstring injuries respectively.

Son Heung-min and Fernando Llorente are potential replacements for the pair and Pochettino may give at least one of the England duo a break, with a home game against West Brom to come on Saturday.

Victor Wanyama and Toby Alderweireld are out with knee and hamstring injuries respectively, while Erik Lamela is still recovering from a problem with his hips.

Borussia Dortmund coach Peter Bosz has confirmed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will return. Aubameyang was dropped for Dortmund's defeat to Stuttgart on Friday after arriving late for a team training session before the match.

Opta stats

The current record between these clubs in European competition stands at two wins for the German side and one for Tottenham Hotspur; that sole victory for the English side did come on Matchday 1 however, their most recent encounter.

Borussia Dortmund have only lost once in their eight previous meetings at home to English opposition in European competition (W4 D3).

Tottenham Hotspur are one of only four sides to have already sealed their place in the Champions League Last 16 (Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City).

Borussia Dortmund must win this match to have any chance whatsoever of reaching the 2017/18 Champions League Last 16.

Charlie's prediction

Dortmund are struggling in the league and it's been such a disappointing campaign. They must be incredibly frustrated and at some point there will surely be a backlash.

Harry Kane surges forward during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Tottenham at the Emirates

At the weekend people were saying that Spurs will want to go and get a result here, but I'm not sure that's the case. The group is already settled as they just need to beat Apoel at home.

So if I'm Mauricio Pochettino, with Harry Kane looking 75 per cent fit and Christian Eriksen surely tired, I'd be more concerned about getting the squad right rather than trying to force a response out of the team.

He needs to make decisions at the back because for me Eric Dier isn't a centre-back as he gives the ball away too much.

I think Dortmund will be out to prove a point with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang coming back in looking to put himself back in the shop window following his exile at the weekend.
