Impressive second-half show sinks Tykes at Oakwell

Plymouth gave their survival hopes a shot in the arm after coming from a goal down to run out 3-1 winners at Barnsley. It looked like it could be one of those days for the Pilgrims in South Yorkshire as Hugo Colace gave Mark Robins' side a first-half lead. However, it was a game of two halves as Plymouth ran riot after the break with goals from Carl Fletcher, Jamie Mackie and Rory Fallon sealing the three points. Plymouth had an early chance when Fletcher's sliced shot fell to Fallon but he was off balance and made little contact from six yards. The hosts then missed a glorious chance to take the lead when Jay Rodriguez squared the ball for Emil Hallfredsson along the six-yard box but he managed to blast the ball wide. Rodriguez then forced a chance of his own when he took a shot on early from outside the box and Argyle goalkeeper David Stockdale was forced to tip the ball around the post.

Dominate

The hosts were starting to dominate proceedings and Filipe Teixeira was the next man to test Stockdale. He beat two men on the right-hand side before cutting in and firing a shot at goal which was well held. The hosts took a deserved lead in first-half injury time as Carl Dickinson's cross found its way to Colace, who arrived late to smash the ball past Stockdale from the edge of the area. The second half started in much the same fashion and Dickinson almost added a second when he let fly with a fierce shot from 30 yards, but it whistled wide as Stockdale scrambled across his goal. The visitors got themselves on level terms after 64 minutes when Fletcher volleyed in from the edge of the area following a poor attempted clearance from the Barnsley defence. The goal spurred Argyle into life and Damien Johnson hit the crossbar with a drilled effort just moments later. Plymouth substitute Yannick Bolasie then put a great cross in for Fallon but he was unable to get a clear head at goal. The duo combined again with 16 minutes to play to set up Mackie and give Plymouth the lead. Bolasie's cross from the right was flicked on by Fallon and Mackie was there at the back post to head the ball into the empty net. The Pilgrims made sure of the points with seven minutes to play when Fallon picked the ball up 35 yards from goal and spotted Steele off his line before lifting the ball over the keeper and into the unguarded goal.
