Torquay bounced back from conceding five goals on Saturday to win 2-0 win at Burton.
Two first-half goals were enough for the Gulls and they defended resolutely as Paul Peschisolido's side charged at them to no great effect throughout the second half.
Torquay took a deserved lead after 26 minutes when Wayne Carlisle and Elliott Benyon combined well on the right before Carlisle crossed for Scott Rendell who turned in plenty of space and finished from just inside the box.
Burton almost levelled when a Jimmy Phillips cross was headed towards his own goal by Chris Hargreaves but Scott Bevan tipped the ball over.
The Gulls took advantage with 37 minutes gone Kevin Nicholson drove the ball low across the six-yard box and Benyon reacted quickest to turn it in.
For all their efforts, Burton were largely kept at arm's length by Torquay in the second half, Bevan not needing to make a difficult save.
