Hurst nets winner for Bury

A barrage of late pressure paid dividends as as a winner from substitute Glynn Hurst earned Bury a 2-1 win over promotion rivals Shrewsbury. Phil Jevons gave the Shakers an undeserved half-time lead with a 45th-minute penalty and although Nick Chadwick levelled in the 55th minute, Hurst pounced 10 minutes from time as Bury took full advantage to climb into second place, two points clear of Wycombe and Exeter. The Shrews started strongest with Grant Holt heading wide from Chris Humphrey's right-wing cross while Bury goalkeeper Wayne Brown had to pull off a one-handed save low to his left to deny Holt after a fine run by the lively Ben Davies. But the Shakers were awarded a penalty on the stroke of half-time. Andy Morrell beat defender Graham Coughlan to the ball inside the box and on-loan striker Jevons stepped up to sidefoot the spot-kick home. The visitors drew level within 10 minutes of the restart, though, as Chadwick rose above Steve Haslam to head home Davies' right-wing cross. But with time running out, Bishop flicked on Efe Sodje's long ball and fellow sub Hurst nipped in front of Daniels to lift the ball over the Shrews' keeper.
