David Flitcroft has told his Bury side to fear no-one in this year's FA Cup after winning 4-0 at home to Wigan in the first round.

Wigan won the competition in 2013 but went out with a whimper as the Shakers romped into a 3-0 lead by half-time through goals by Tom Pope, Danny Mayor and Nathan Cameron.

And Leon Clarke's second-half effort saw Bury secure a Cup double over their local rivals, with whom the Shakers are joint-fifth in League One after winning promotion last term.

Bury boss Flitcroft said: "We beat them in the Capital One Cup and we've beat them in the FA Cup. That's how we perform, we've been performing consistently for two years now.

"The lads believe they can beat any team we play. I send out that message to this group, to never feel the opposition is superior and to make sure they back each other up in everything they do. They certainly did that today.

"We knew where we could hurt them, we wanted to get crosses in and penetrate the box. We did that, and to keep the clean sheet as well, comprehensive is a good word to describe it.

"It was probably as good a performance as we've had since I took over. Every single one of them had a team ethic. It was a real team performance and that's what has got us the victory.

"I love this competition and to be in the next round was the key."

The Shakers broke the deadlock in the 18th minute as Chris Hussey crossed for Pope, whose header squirmed through the grasp of Richard O'Donnell and in off the post.

And although Danny Rose then headed narrowly over for the Shakers, Mayor fired home first time on 34 minutes after Jacob Mellis led a Bury break.

Craig Davies then tested Daniel Bachmann but Danny Pugh crossed for Pope to head back across goal in stoppage time, with Cameron heading in on the goal-line.

And Clarke ensured the Latics' 10-match unbeaten run came to a shuddering halt in the 64th minute as he turned in Joe Riley's deflected cross.

Wigan manager Gary Caldwell said: "It's probably the lowest I've been since I got the job.

"Everything that could go wrong did go wrong and it's one we have to take on the chin.

"We had great support again so we have to apologise to the fans. It's not good enough in terms of the result and the performance.

"I thought we started very well. We had opportunities to score and you can't take them for granted because they're not going to keep coming. We have to be more clinical.

"The first goal came from a mistake and then we crumbled after that, and that's something we've not done this season.

"You can't give teams a three-goal start and expect to come back. As a team, you have to rally round and do something about it but we just didn't play after that first goal.

"It's a massive disappointment but we have to regroup and move on."
