Palace boss preapred for sack after Coventry setback

Peter Taylor is "not confident" of holding on to his job after the 1-1 draw with Iain Dowie's Coventry. The Crystal Palace manager is thought to have three more games to save his position, and he revealed his disappointment at chairman Simon Jordan's decision to reveal his admiration for potential successor Neil Warnock in the media. Palace took the lead in the 26th minute through winger Stuart Green but Coventry pulled level in the 87th minute when Leon Best seized on a defensive mix-up to score. The Palace boss said: "I am not confident but I just don't know because I have not spoken to Simon. I doubt we will speak before the weekend but he has had a few things on his plate.

Memories

"If I'm honest it's not nice when you read that he has been having regular contact with Neil Warnock. But I don't think the fact that we failed to beat an Iain Dowie team makes any difference. "I hope I am given time because I enjoy the job. I have lots of great memories of Crystal Palace and I would like to be successful here. "The position we are in is not good enough and I accept that. But I don't think we are that far away from being a good side. "I was disappointed with the boos because of our performance. I thought they would see that the players had put a good shift in." In the opposite dugout, Coventry manager Iain Dowie could not hide his delight as his side fought back to rescue a point after falling behind early on.
Appeal
Dowie was back on familiar turf after losing the courtroom battle with Palace chairman Jordan in the summer which cost him £1.4million. He could lose even more if he loses his appeal, and he riled Jordan further by saying his former employer would have preferred to have won in court than on the pitch last night. Dowie added: "Nobody can take away what I did here and I'll let other people spout off in the media. "I never see Simon Jordan's name in the paper unless he is battering someone. I think when people look back in 10 years' time they'll see that I did okay. "We got promotion in my first season, got relegated on goal difference, and then got into the play-offs again in the third year. "They have made a lot of money on the players I left them. They also spent £8m on players last season and they didn't get to the play-offs."
