Bury had scored twice in quick succession, in the 23rd minute when Danny Mayor progressed into the box and pulled the ball back for Jay O'Shea to fire home, before a Nicky Adams' set piece was touched on to Will Aimson who flicked the ball into the far corner three minutes later.

Cambridge fought their way back into the game six minutes before half-time through Paul Lewis, who fired home after Jabo Ibehre's shot had been turned onto the post by Joe Murphy, but Lewis was then sent off in the 55th minute for a second yellow card.
