Former trialist Yan Klukowski returned to haunt Carlisle as his first-half header put Newport on the way to a 3-2 win at Brunton Park.
Newport dominated the first half and took a deserved lead in the ninth minute when Klukowski grabbed his third goal of the season, heading Chris Zebroski's superb right-wing cross past Carlisle keeper Dan Hanford. The visitors doubled their lead in the 47th minute when Andy Sandell's corner was tapped in from a few yards out by Ismail Yakubu but Carlisle responded in the 52nd minute as Brad Potts converted Danny Grainger's long throw from the left with a smart finish from 12 yards out. Carlisle applied heavy pressure on the County goal but David Amoo saw his effort from the left cleared off the line and visiting keeper Jamie Stephens brilliantly saved Grainger's free-kick. Substitute Shaun Jeffers made the result safe in the 90th minute as a Paul Thirlwell error allowed him to sneak in and slot past Hanford before Amoo scored a late consolation with last kick of the game.
