Carlisle 1-1 York York leave it late

Carlisle missed a chance to celebrate their homecoming when they allowed League Two's bottom club York to force a 1-1 draw with a late equaliser.

Jason Kennedy put the Cumbrians in front in the first half and they should have made better use of their possession before Luke Summerfield grabbed York's valuable equaliser close to full-time.

Carlisle were back at Brunton Park seven weeks after Storm Desmond wreaked havoc on their home ground causing them to play their three most recent home games on neutral territory.

However the Cumbrians made heavy weather of what should have been a convincing win over a side with just one away win to their credit all season.

There was an early scare for the home side when David Atkinson's weak back-pass forced Mark Gillespie to race out of his goal to deny Ntumba Massanka.

But Carlisle went ahead in the 15th minute when Kennedy latched on to Tom Miller's long throw and danced his way through into the penalty area to slide the ball low past Scott Flinders from 10 yards.

A minute later Derek Asamoah should have made it 2-0 when he took advantage of defensive confusion to wriggle into the box, only to see his close-range effort blocked.

Carlisle were on top without managing to create too many clear-cut chances, although Asamoah was a couple of feet away with a delicate first-time deflection from Kennedy's cutback and then it was his cross that set up Jabo Ibehre for a 74th-minute header which Carlisle's leading scorer somehow missed from just a couple of yards.

Two minutes from time Carlisle were made to pay for their slackness. York substitute Bradley Fewster cannoned a 20-yard shot off the woodwork and with the Carlisle defence in disarray Summerfield drilled the ball home.
