Chesterfield will expect to maintain their promotion push as they travel to lowly Cheltenham.

Robins lose one defender but regain another for Spireites

Chesterfield will expect to maintain their promotion push as they travel to Whaddon Road to take on lowly Cheltenham. The Spireites are just two points shy of the automatic promotion positions and are well placed for a play-off finish at the very least. The Robins, meanwhile, are just one place above the relegation zone but, with seven points to spare, their survival is in their own hands. Cheltenham have lost one defender but regained another ahead of the encounter. David Bird is facing around three weeks on the sidelines with ankle ligament damage sustained during Tuesday night's disappointing 1-0 home defeat to fellow strugglers Hereford and is on crutches. However, manager Mark Yates is able to welcome back Michael Townsend, who has missed out of late due to a groin injury. Midfielders Matt Thornhill and Marley Watkins passed late fitness tests to feature in midweek and will be involved once again. Returning captain Shane Duff managed some crucial minutes for the reserves in midweek before a third successive appearance as an unused substitute against the Bulls. He should again be on the bench this time around. Chesterfield will be without Dominic Green and Frankie Artus for the match after both players were recalled by their parent clubs. Green was recalled by Peterborough while Artus' stay at Saltergate ended following last weekend's home defeat to Aldershot and he is now back at Bristol City. Blues boss John Sheridan, who is in the running for the League Two manager of the month award for February, otherwise has an unchanged squad. He will pick from Danny Boshell, Derek Niven and Wade Small to replace Green in the starting XI, while the absence of Artus frees up a space on the bench. Striker Jack Lester is still recovering from knee surgery and is not expected back until the end of the month or early April.
