Cheltenham dispose of rock-bottom Crewe

Drissa Diallo's first goal for Cheltenham earned the Robins a 1-0 victory over fellow League One strugglers Crewe at Whaddon Road. The big defender broke the deadlock three minutes after the half-time interval when he volleyed in a Josh Payne corner at the near post. It secured the Robins' first league win since October and piled more pressure on Crewe's beleaguered caretaker boss Dario Gradi, who lost two players to injury inside three minutes. Midfielder James Bailey sustained a blow to the eye but more worryingly Calvin Zola was knocked unconscious following a clash of heads with Barry Hayles and was stretchered off in a neck brace. However, Crewe still had chances and Colin Daniel blazed over from 12 yards while sub Tom Pope headed straight at Scott Brown when well placed and Shaun Miller should have levelled in the 72nd minutes but with the goal gaping he could only drag his shot well wide. Midfielder Scott Murray was twice denied by good saves from goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson - including a finger-tip save in the closing stages.
