Chesterfield caretaker manager Mark Smith hopes the FA Cup visit of Walsall will give his side a much-needed confidence boost after a fourth successive defeat cost Dean Saunders his job last weekend.

"We need to start winning games and it'd be great to get into the hat for the third round where the big boys are waiting," said the Spireites' academy boss.

Smith plans to make only minor tweaks but admits he will pick experience in his first team.

Full-back Dan Jones is out for six months after fracturing an ankle last weekend with Angel Martinez (knee) a long-term absentee.

Tom Bradshaw is out for managerless Walsall's trip to the Proact Stadium with an ankle injury.

The striker limped out of Tuesday's 3-1 win at Shrewsbury and is expected to be sidelined for up to 10 days.

Sam Mantom is fit though after being named on the bench against Shrewsbury after an ankle problem which had kept him out for over a month.
