Colchester were unable to crown their first game at their new Weston Homes Community Stadium with a win as they were held to a goalless draw by battling Huddersfield.
The Us had edged the opening 45 minutes, with Clive Platt's close-range effort pushed around the post by Terriers keeper Matt Glennon and winger Mark Yeates hitting the woodwork with a chipped free-kick from the edge of the area.
However, Huddersfield also looked a potent attacking force and the evergreen Andy Booth's half-volley sailed only inches over for the visitors before the break.
In the second half Huddersfield felt they had legitimate grounds for a penalty when Johnnie Jackson appeared to block Jon Worthington's effort with an arm, and Booth failed to properly connect inside the six-yard box in the final minute.
