Oldham made it three successive League Two wins after recording an impressive 2-0 triumph at play-off chasing Colchester.
Both goals came in the opening 13 minutes as Alex Iacovitti put the visitors ahead before Callum Lang doubled the advantage.
The victory is Oldham's third on the trot by the same scoreline, having also seen off Grimsby and Tranmere 2-0 since Paul Scholes' short stint as manager came to an end.
Tom Hamer's early 25-yard effort flew just wide for the Latics but they took a fifth-minute lead when the unmarked Iacovitti swept home low from close range after Lang and then Peter Clarke had helped a corner into his path.
Things got even better for Pete Wild's men soon after when Lang clinically fired home to make it 2-0, the striker netting after Colchester keeper Dillon Barnes had inexplicably sent a clearance straight into his path.
Barnes pushed away Lang's deflected shot and then had to dive at full stretch to hold on to Christopher Missilou's 30-yard strike as Oldham looked to increase their lead before the break.
And although Colchester had a penalty shout rejected just before half-time when Courtney Senior tumbled under Clarke's challenge inside the area, Oldham were well worth their internal advantage.
Colchester pressed in the second half, although Barnes pushed away Lang's long-range effort at the other end.
Oldham goalkeeper Daniel Iversen then brilliantly kept out Brennan Dickenson's late curling free-kick to ensure his side ran out worthy winners.
