Crewe captain Mat Mitchel-King and midfielder Steve Schumacher are both available, while Rob Atkinson is a doubt for Grimsby.
The Alex pair have been out with back problems but were unused substitutes on Saturday as Dario Gradi's side dropped more home points against Barnet.
Gradi was upset with his side's defending in that 2-2 draw and centre-half Mitchel-King is a strong favourite to be recalled.
That would probably see the versatile Ashley Westwood revert back to his preferred midfield role - as he did in the second half against the Bees.
Gradi is also hoping to have leading scorer Calvin Zola available again. The 16-goal striker was scheduled to return from his hamstring problem at the weekend but turned an ankle in training on Friday.
Zola trained on Monday but may have to settle for a place on the bench if fit, after Clayton Donaldson's two goals against Barnet.
Mariners team news
Defender Atkinson could miss out after he was forced off with a knock midway through the second half of the home win over Shrewsbury.
Paul Linwood, Atkinson's replacement on Saturday, is likely to fill in should the 22-year-old miss out.
On-loan centre-half Olly Lancashire is also a concern after aggravating a foot injury in the same game.
The 3-0 victory against the Shrews halted a club-record 25-game winless league run and boss Neil Woods is keen to build on that success.
"It was a big step for us psychologically but we have to make sure it is not a one-off," said Woods, who will still be without on-loan midfielder Paris Cowan-Hall (hamstring) and suspended striker Nathan Jarman.
The game at Gresty Road goes ahead after a pitch inspection on Tuesday lunchtime gave it the green light.
