Basement battle at Gresty Road

Two sides battling for their League One lives meet on Saturday as Crewe play host to Hereford. Four wins in five outings have lifted the Railwaymen out of the dreaded drop zone, but their cushion over the bottom four stands at just a solitary point. Hereford have also found form of late, winning three of their last four, but they remain four points adrift of safety.

Crewe team news

Manager of the month Gudjon Thordarson could have Calvin Zola available for Crewe's crucial relegation clash. The striker has resumed training after a groin injury and his return to fitness could see the club end their search to bring in a goalscorer on loan. Alex have been looking at a number of targets to provide cover for Tom Pope, who is out with an ankle injury. "We are discussing some names, but it is a possibility that Calvin will be back for the weekend," said assistant manager Neil Baker. "He is as good as any of the players we are chasing. He has trained most of the week. He hasn't done everything the others have, but he is stepping things up." Steven Schumacher is a doubt after coming off at half-time in the midweek defeat to Carlisle while fellow midfielder Michael O'Connor will continue to be overlooked after being made available for loan this week.
Hereford team news
Hereford will be without Josh Gowling and Andy Williams for the trip to Gresty Road. Centre-back Gowling has been sidelined ever since sustaining an ankle injury against Cheltenham almost three weeks ago, although he is expected to make a return to action later this month. Striker Williams has also picked up an ankle injury that has ruled him out of the trip to Gresty Road. Goalkeeper Craig Samson is a long-term absentee having undergone groin surgery, but otherwise, Bulls boss Graham Turner has a fully-fit squad to select from. Defender Dean Beckwith could make his first start since suffering concussion in the same game Gowling picked up his ankle problem, while Karl Broadhurst may be preferred to Godwin Antwi at the back having replaced him at half-time during last Saturday's 2-1 win over Leyton Orient.
