Doncaster crashed to their first home defeat under recently-appointed boss Darren Ferguson as Rochdale's 2-0 victory ended their run of seven league games without a win.
Ian Henderson grabbed two late goals for the visitors to give them a victory that had never really looked on the cards.
Rochdale fought a rearguard battle for most of the game and home keeper Thorsten Stuckmann did not have a shot to save until the 66th minute.
But despite having most of the attacking play, Doncaster were unable to find an end product as they struggled in the final third.
Top scorer Andy Williams set the pattern when he failed to control a cross from Nathan Tyson with the goal at his mercy in the 10th minute.
Williams was unlucky to see a low shot tipped round the post on the stroke of half-time but the home side faded in the second half.
Rochdale grew in confidence and were rewarded when Henderson struck from 20 yards following a breakaway attack in the 84th minute.
Henderson sealed the issue deep into stoppage time when he tapped in from close range after Donal McDermott set up the chance.
