An early goal from Andy Barrowman earned Dunfermline a 1-0 victory at Dumbarton and sent the Pars to the summit of the First Division table. With Morton and Partick Thistle being held at Cowdenbeath and Livingston respectively, Jim Jefferies' side took full advantage to top the standings on goal difference. Just 50 seconds were on the clock when Barrowman arrived unmarked to slot home an Alex Whittle centre which the Sons defence failed to deal with. Any expected onslaught failed to materialise and Dumbarton came close to levelling in the next few minutes through Steven McDougall and Jim Lister. At the other end Barrowman almost bagged his second goal of the game but he was just inches away from connecting with a fine Ryan Wallace cross. After the break home keeper Jamie Ewings had to be alert to beat out a Wallace effort before Barrowman had an 'goal' correctly ruled out for offside. Dumbarton finished the game strongly but a mixture of fine goalkeeping from Paul Gallacher and some sloppy finishing saw the three points return to Fife with the new league leaders.
