Dagenham got John Still's third stint as manager off to an idea start with a 2-1 victory at Exeter.
The game went ahead after a late pitch inspection but home fans may have been wishing it had been called off when Dagenham captain Josh Labadie headed home in the 11th minute.
Visiting keeper Mark Cousins was called into action either side of his side's goal, making saves from Lee Holmes and Alex Nicholls as conditions played their part in a scrappy opening.
In the opposite goal, home stopper Bobby Olejnik needed two attempts to collect Ashley Chambers' strike while Christian Doidge also went close but failed to test Olejnik having managed to get on the end of Frankie Raymond's free-kick.
Dagenham had chances to extend their lead before half-time only to see Tom Nichols nod home to draw Exeter level at the interval.
Exeter then dominated the opening exchanges after the break but Dagenham gradually worked their way into the game again and were rewarded when Chambers headed home in the 74th minute.
