Promoted side Fortuna Dusseldorf earned an important point from a goalless draw against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Promoted side Fortuna Dusseldorf earned an important point from a goalless draw against Borussia Monchengladbach in their first home Bundesliga match in 15 years. Dusseldorf were forced to play their game against local rivals Gladbach in front of just 20,000 fans - with 5,000 visiting supporters - due to fan behaviour in the relegation play-offs at the end of last season. Dusseldorf can be thrilled with having collected four points from their first two league games this season with Gladbach matching that tally. Gladbach had the first chance of the game after just two minutes as Havard Nordtveit's throw-in landed in front of Martin Stranzl, who blasted his shot over the bar from 10 yards out. The guests came close again in the 29th minute as Juan Arango crossed from the right side to the far post, Luuk de Jong nailing a volley that Dusseldorf keeper Fabian Giefer did well to keep out. Dusseldorf did very little going forward in the first hour but slowly began to grow more dangerous. Dani Schahin's sliding attempt after a pass from Tobias Levels only found the side netting in the 63rd minute. And then Robbie Kruse had space three minutes later on the counter attack but shot wide of the target. Schahin came close to sealing victory for Dusseldorf with 12 minutes remaining but he headed just over the bar from a set piece.
