Bayer Leverkusen remain on course for a place in the Champions League next season after beating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 at the Commerzbank Arena. Goals from Gonzalo Castro and Emre Can earned Sascha Lewandowski's side a crucial three points, considering their rivals for fourth Wolfsburg and Borussia Monchengladbach also won on the penultimate weekend of the Bundesliga season. Frankfurt did not appear too concerned about losing, mustering up only a handful of attempts on goal in Armin Veh's last home game as their coach. Veh was given a warm send-off from the Frankfurt fans prior to the match, having chosen not to extend his contract beyond this summer. He was presented with flowers and gifts, and that trend continued into the game with Frankfurt offering their guests plenty of pleasantries. Eren Derdiyok was chosen by Leverkusen coach Lewandowski to lead his side's attack in the absence of the injured Stefan Kiessling, and he was involved in the build-up to the opening goal, squaring the ball for Castro to tuck in from close range. Without really breaking a sweat, Leverkusen looked in complete control of the game while all Frankfurt could muster in the first 45 minutes was a Martin Lanig header, which flashed wide of the far post. It was a similar story in the second half, with Frankfurt appearing to stand aside and allow Leverkusen to get the win they were clearly hungrier for. A shot from Julian Brandt took a deflection off Can before striking the right-hand post, the ball returning to Can to beat Kevin Trapp at the second attempt. Lanig sent another header off target for what proved to be Frankfurt's best chance of the second half, although Leverkusen did not really threaten a third either. Derdiyok sent their best chance over the crossbar, but two goals were enough to mean Leverkusen can seal fourth place next weekend by at least matching the results of Wolfsburg and Gladbach.
