Jelle Vossen's 22nd-minute header sent Genk on their way to a comfortable victory over Videoton in their opening Europa League Group G game.

Jelle Vossen's 22nd-minute header sent Genk on their way to a comfortable victory over Videoton in their opening Europa League Group G game. Thomas Buffel and Benjamin De Ceulaer added late strikes to put the gloss on a fine performance by the Belgians who have now suffered just one defeat in their last 12 competitive games. The hosts had their first chance in the 10th minute, when the lively Steven Monrose fired just wide from 18 yards, then moments later visiting keeper Mladen Bozovic caught a Jeroen Simaeys header. Genk opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Buffel delivered a cross from the right wing and Vossen fired a header past Bozovic and into the bottom right corner of the net. The Belgians pressed for a second and came close in the 32nd minute when Dani Fernandez crossed for Buffel, whose header from the centre of the box was well caught by Bozovic. Genk keeper Kristof Van Hout was called into action for the first time in the 40th minute when he made a comfortable save from an ambitious 25-yard drive by Nikola Mitrovic. And with Videoton ending the first half with their best spell of the game so far, Van Hout also had to get down to save a close-range effort from Walter in the last minute of the opening period. The Hungarian visitors came close again two minutes into the second half through Gyorgy Sandor, but Genk soon seized control with Benjamin De Ceulaer bringing two saves out of Bozovic in as many minutes. Vossen missed a golden chance to add a second when he sidefooted a Kalidou Koulibaly cross wide in the 55th minute, then De Ceulaer saw another effort saved by Bozovic from 18 yards. Vossen headed against the bar from a De Ceulaer cross in the 71st minute and Genk's failure to to find a second goal almost cost them when Mitrovic blew a superb chance to equalise in the 74th minute. Genk's second finally arrived after 77 minutes when Buffel headed home a cross by Vossen from close range, and De Ceulaer made it 3-0 in injury time when he found the target from 18 yards.
