Fortunate Orient secure the points at Hartlepool

Leyton Orient's revival under new manager Geraint Williams continued as they made it three games unbeaten with an impressive 1-0 win at Hartlepool. Fortune was on Orient's side though as after negotiating heavy spells of Hartlepool pressure, they sealed the three points with 11 minutes remaining when Gary Liddle's clearance hit Tamika Mkandawire and flew into the net. Pool made much of the early running and debutant Lewis Guy volleyed in an ambitious shot before Andy Monkhouse hooked a shot just wide, while Scott McGleish had Orient's first chance when he fired wide from a good position. There were more chances for both sides in an entertaining second half, as Jones saved well from Liam Henderson and Monkhouse, while at the other end Adam Chambers saw his shot tipped round the post by Arran Lee-Barrett. Orient claimed the victory in the 79th minute when Liddle's attempted clearance from a Charlie Daniels free-kick rebounded off the lucky Mkandawire and they had no problems seeing out the remaining minutes as they continued to defend resolutely.
