      Scunthorpe edged a thrilling encounter 3-2 as Paul Hayes struck twice against struggling Hartlepool. The Iron took the lead on seven minutes when Grant McCann curled in a deflected 25-yard free-kick to wrongfoot goalkeeper Jan Budtz as the ball sneaked inside the far post. But Hartlepool levelled on 18 minutes when defender Michael Nelson stooped to head in from close range after Sam Collins flicked on a right-wing free-kick from Andy Monkhouse. Scunthorpe were back in front 10 minutes after half-time when Gary Hooper pulled the ball back from the right flank and Hayes scored from close range. Hartlepool hit back again with another equaliser on 76 minutes when substitute Daniel Nardiello blasted in after he controlled a right-wing cross from Richie Jones. But three minutes later Scunthorpe clinched victory when Hayes scored from 10 yards after a shot from Hooper came back to him off the base of the post.
