Hull v Wigan preview

Hull have adapted quickly to life in the Premier League, while Wigan remain point-less after two games.

Latics out to tame the Tigers

Hull have adapted quickly to life in the Premier League, while Wigan remain pointless after two games. The Tigers took maximum points from their first-ever top flight fixture, a 2-1 win against Fulham, a result which stretched their unbeaten run at KC Stadium to 11 games. They have also proved adept at coming from behind, taking four points from losing positions in their two games this season. Phil Brown's men continue to leak goals, though, and have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last seven league games. Wigan have begun their campaign with back-to-back defeats, meaning they have now lost their last three Premier League matches. The Latics are also far from impressive on their travels, securing maximum points just twice in their last 24 top flight fixtures on the road. The two sides have not met in the league since 1996/97, when both teams were in the fourth tier, while Hull claimed a 1-0 win in a Carling Cup meeting at JJB Stadium last season.

Boateng doubtful

Hull midfielder George Boateng is struggling to make Saturday's clash as he continues to be laid low by injury. The former Middlesbrough man missed last week's 1-1 draw against Blackburn with a thigh problem which has not responded well to treatment. Striker Marlon King, on loan from Wigan, is ineligible to play against his parent club meaning veteran forward Dean Windass could start. Ian Ashbee, Andy Dawson and Geovanni have all overcome slight knocks to take their places in the squad.
Kirkland returns
Wigan boss Steve Bruce expects goalkeeper Chris Kirkland to be fit to face the Tigers after he was rested for Tuesday's 4-0 win over Notts County in the Carling Cup. Kirkland suffered a slight back spasm during the warm-up against Chelsea last weekend, which forced him to miss the game, but he should return at KC Stadium - with Mike Pollitt set to step down. The Latics boss has doubts over midfielders Paul Scharner and Jason Koumas, who are both nursing ankle injuries with Michael Brown and Kevin Kilbane standing by. Striker Henri Camara is pushing for a place in the starting line-up after he scored twice against the Magpies.
