Juventus v Bayern preview

Image: Chiellini: Out with calf strain

Bayern tackle Juventus knowing only a win will be enough to see them maintain their Champions League interest.

Bayern need to win to maintain progress

Bayern Munich tackle Juventus knowing only a victory in Turin will be good enough to see them maintain their interest in the UEFA Champions League. Juventus are currently second in Group B behind group winners Bordeaux and need only a point in their final outing to secure a place in the last 16. The Old Lady would love a repeat of the scoreline in their first meeting when the sides played out a goalless draw in the Allianz Arena in September.

Juve news

Italy centre-back Giorgio Chiellini is out of Tuesday's winner-takes-all battle with Bayern due to a calf injury. Chiellini took a knock in Saturday's top-of-the-table 2-1 victory against Inter Milan and will likely be out for about three weeks. Nicola Legrottaglie is likely to replace Chiellini alongside World Cup winning captain Fabio Cannavaro in the centre of defence. Meanwhile goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, Italy's number one, is rated as uncertain due to a fracture in his knee. The 31-year-old has been putting off an operation all season on the same knee but felt pain following training on Monday morning. A final decision on Buffon's fitness will be made following training on Tuesday morning but if he is ruled out Austrian Alex Manninger will take over between the sticks.
Bayern news
The Bundesliga outfit come into the match boosted by a 2-1 weekend win over Borussia Monchengladbach thanks to Holger Badstuber's late winner. Bayern coach Louis van Gaal will be without injured playmaker Franck Ribery but skilful winger Arjen Robben was fit to travel. Bayern set foot on their charter flight to Turin without Italian striker Luca Toni, who no longer figures in the plans of Van Gaal. Alexander Baumjohann, Andreas Gorlitz, Michael Rensing and Christian Lell have also been left behind as they are not fit.
