Defences prevail in bore draw

Defences were on top as Leyton Orient held Brighton to a goalless draw in a dire encounter at Brisbane Road on Tuesday.

When these sides met at the beginning of the year table-topping Brighton thrashed their rivals by five goals, but there was never danger of a repeat as both sets of strikers struggled to make an impact. The only occasion when the visiting keeper Casper Ankergren was seriously called into action was when Dean Cox unleashed a thundering drive from 25 yards but it was tipped over in fine style. At the other end Jamie Jones came to his side's rescue midway through the first half when he smothered a close-range effort from Matt Sparrow following a mistake by Ben Chorley. But after that most of the action was fought out outside the respective penalty boxes as both teams were forced to deliver long-range efforts on goal.
