Munteanu to take charge of first Champions League game

Lyon aim to move a step closer to a place in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League by beating Steaua Bucharest. The two sides were involved a in thrilling contest in Romania a fortnight ago, with Lyon eventually running out 5-3 winners. Steaua had raced into an early two-goal advantage, and led 3-2 at half-time, before Lyon struck three times in the final 20 minutes. The French champions' coach Claude Puel is aware that Steaua will be a threat again, particularly as Dorinel Munteanu is taking charge of his first Champions League game.

      Motivated

"The arrival of a new coach often brings freshness, with players starting from scratch and trying to impress," said Puel. "Steaua looked extremely determined and motivated against Dinamo and they should probably have won. "We'll need to be careful. Just because we did something remarkable over there doesn't automatically mean we'll be superior at home." Puel will be without Sidney Govou (ankle), Mathieu Bodmer (groin) and Francois Clerc (knee) for the Group F encounter. Munteanu has replaced Marius Lacatus as Steaua coach since the home defeat by Lyon and the 1986 European Cup winners need to win to keep their hopes of progression alive. Defender Petre Marin misses out through injury and Munteanu is looking forward to the challenge of coaching in Europe's elite club competition. "It's normal to feel nervous, especially before a big European match," said Munteanu. "I may not have much experience, but we have a lot of experienced players and they're all ready to rise to the challenge."
