Macclesfield failed to convert a host of chances as Aldershot moved into a play-off spot after a 1-1 draw.

Late penalty secures a point for Aldershot's promotion push

Macclesfield failed to convert a succession of chances as lacklustre Aldershot moved into a play-off spot courtesy of a late penalty in a 1-1 draw at the Moss Rose Ground. Against the run of play Aldershot were gift-wrapped an equaliser in the 75th minute when Macc skipper Paul Morgan pulled back Marvin Morgan in the box allowing Scott Donnelly to convert with a decisive spot-kick. Macclesfield missed their own penalty in the first minute when John Rooney telegraphed his attempt allowing Jamie Young to push the ball onto the post after Aaron Brown had flattened Emile Sinclair. However Macclesfield took the lead on 17 minutes when Rooney played a neat backheel to Nat Brown who poked home from 15 yards. Anthony Charles might have equalised for the Shots on the break but put a free header from six yards wide of the upright. Macclesfield dominated after the break with Sinclair sliding a shot off the far post before Ben Wright twice found Young's outstretched legs with only the keeper to beat. Teenager Vinnie Mukendi should have sealed the win for Macclesfield at the death but planted a 20-yard drive over the bar with the keeper in no-man's land.
