Mansfield substitute Alex Fisher snatched a fully deserved last-minute victory as second-placed Morecambe were sunk 1-0.
The Stags dominated for long spells and made the best chances before Fisher headed home from close range as he got on the end of Liam Marsden's long throw from the left. Mansfield should have been ahead after just 10 minutes as Matt Read pounced on a Ryan Edwards mistake to get away a powerful 20-yard shot that Barry Roche could only parry. That left Rakish Bingham with the goal at his mercy on his home debut, but he poked wide from six yards. Lee Beevers then saw a 25-yard effort clip the top of the Morecambe crossbar. The visitors finally enjoyed a spell of possession and Aaron McGowan forced Dimitar Evtimov into a fine save to keep out his dipping 16-yard effort. An offside flag was already up before Mark Hughes poked over the line from the resulting corner. The Stags put together some of their best football of the season after the break and Fergus Bell fired straight at Roche while in the 64th minute Andrew Fleming had to head an Adam Murray finish off the line from a home corner. Roche also had to turn aside a long range Matt Rhead effort as they played second fiddle to a lively home side.
