Wigan have bolstered their defence with the loan signing of Derby's Stephen Warnock.

The 34-year-old full-back, who has been capped by England on two occasions, has made 22 appearances for the Rams this term but has not featured since Paul Clement was sacked in early February.

Warnock will now spend the remainder of the campaign with Wigan, who are second in the Sky Bet League 1 table.

Latics manager Gary Caldwell said on his club's official website: "We are struggling a little on the left side of defence with Chris McCann now suspended for two games, we don't know the time scale on Reece James yet and the opportunity to bring in a player with his quality and experience is a great signing for the rest of season.

"When we found out Stephen was available it really was a no-brainer.

"He has vast experience having played extensively at the very top level, but he also has great Football League experience in recent years and I think he will really help the squad at a vital time of the season."
