West Brom midfielder Gareth Barry has triggered an optional 12-month extension having played 25 times this season, according to Sky sources.
It remains to be seen whether Barry will take up the option with West Brom, who are bottom of the Premier League on 20 points, 10 adrift of safety with six matches remaining.
The 37-year-old joined the Baggies last summer from Everton and has since featured in 29 matches, scoring one goal.
Manager Alan Pardew left by mutual consent on Monday with Nigel Pearson and Craig Shakespeare among the early frontrunners to replace him.
Sky sources also understand Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy is open to taking the vacant position at The Hawthorns.
McCarthy will leave Portman Road at the end of this campaign after reaching a mutual decision last week with owner Marcus Evans.
Darren Moore is expected to remain in caretaker control of West Brom until the end of the season.
