Manager wants to keep Heywood and Montague but looks set to miss out on Bennett

Brentford captain Matt Heywood is in talks about a new deal with the League Two outfit. Manager Andy Scott wants to retain the player who has been a cornerstone of the Bees' defence. Scott also wants to keep Ross Montague at the club but believes on-loan Reading defender Alan Bennett will not return to Griffin Park next term. The manager told the club's official website: "I know what I want to do with the squad for next year and we are starting that work now.

Early stages

"I have spoken to Matt Heywood about offering him a new deal and that is in the early stages of negotiations at the minute. "I have also told Ross Montague that we will be taking up the option in his contract to keep him here." Scott would also like to keep Bennett, who scored for the first time for Brentford in the 2-2 draw against Bradford last weekend, but believes there is little chance of this. "He is a good professional who leads by example. He was with Southampton so that shows the level of him," Scott told the Ealing Times. "I would love to keep him and he has enjoyed his time here but it's highly unlikely we will get him back."
