Brighton are close to completing a deal for centre-back Uwe Hunemeier from Paderborn, according to Sky sources.
It is understood a deal is near agreement at around the £1.7m mark, which would make the 29-year-old Brighton's most expensive defender to date.
Hunemeier was a Borussia Dortmund academy player and graduated in 2004. He made his debut for the senior Dortmund team in December 2005.
But played just five times for the first-team and instead established himself in the club's second team in the German lower leagues.
He signed for Energie Cottbus in 2010, making 78 appearances and scoring 10 times for the Bundesliga 3 club, before moving to Paderborn in 2013.
Hunemeier was instrumental as Paderborn were promoted to the German top-flight a year later but he could not help them stay there, with Paderborn relegated at the end of last season.
He has played 65 times in the league for Paderborn and scored four goals. Gutersloh-born Hunemeier has not represented Germany at any period in his career.
