Atzori sacked by Serie A strugglers

Catania have moved swiftly to replace Gianluca Atzori by appointing Sinisa Mihajlovic as the club's new coach. Atzori, who only replaced Walter Zenga at the helm in the summer, was fired on Monday evening by the Serie A strugglers. A 3-2 defeat at bottom club Siena on Sunday left Catania on just nine points after 15 games and second bottom of the table. "Gianluca Atzori has been relieved of his duties as trainer of the first team," read a club statement. "We thank Atzori profusely for his work and professionalism and wish him the best of luck in his career," Former Bologna boss Mihajlovic has been handed the reins at Catania and has signed a contract until the summer of 2011. Mihajlovic left Bologna towards the end of last season and was previously Roberto Mancini's assistant at Inter Milan.
