United boss confirms defender has agreed new deal
Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed highly-rated defender Jonny Evans has agreed a new long-term deal with Manchester United.
The deal comes after the 22-year-old has proved his increasing worth to the Red Devils, including stepping into the breach during Rio Ferdinand's injury absences.
After a couple of loan spells at Sunderland earlier in his career, the Northern Ireland international has now made 64 first-team appearances for United.
Although there has been no formal announcement, United boss Ferguson confirmed at Tuesday night's player-of-the-year awards that Evans has agreed a new deal.
Proved himself
The United boss told MUTV: "Jonny has proved himself.
"He has signed a new contract and helps to provide a good foundation for the club for a long time."
While it is not believed Evans has actually put pen to paper yet, the contract is expected to be officially announced in the coming days.
