Santos forward's father says son could join Spanish champions
Neymar would see a move to Barcelona as a "great" option when he eventually leaves Santos, according to the player's father.
The Brazil international forward has been linked with the Spanish and European champions for months as well as with their rivals Real Madrid.
The 19-year-old was reportedly close to signing a contract with Los Blancos before he committed his future to Santos until 2014, but his father has now admitted that moving to Barca is very much on his son's mind.
"Neymar has a contract with Santos until 2014, but Barca is clearly an option that would be great," he told ONA FM
"For now, however, the only agreement that there is is between Santos and himself.
"We feel it would be best if he continues to grow and mature as a football player.
"After negotiating we signed an agreement to renew his contract until 2014 and so we decided to move ahead with that."
No deal yet
Meanwhile, Barcelona have distanced themselves from reports suggesting that they have already paid Santos €10million in advance to land Neymar before 2014.
"What we do is communicate agreements when they are finalised," Blaugrana spokesman Toni Frexia said in a press conference on Wednesday.
"We also respect that the player is a member of another team, Santos, so we have nothing to say.
"I don't explain things that we are doing until they are done."
