Ryo Miyaichi was encouraged by his debut showing for Bolton and says he is gaining a greater understanding of what the Premier League is all about.
Having linked up with the Trotters during the winter transfer window on a loan agreement from Arsenal, the highly-rated winger was handed his top-flight bow on Saturday.
The 19-year-old caught the eye with a lively second-half showing and would have snatched a late point for Bolton were it not for a smart stop from Wigan keeper Ali Al Habsi.
A 2-1 defeat against the Latics means Bolton and Miyaichi still have a lot of hard work ahead of them, but the Japanese youngster believes there is plenty more to come from him this term.
"I was happy to be playing and I found out more about the Premier League, but we lost the game so I can't enjoy it too much," Miyaichi told the Trotters'
official website.
Confident
"The manager (Owen Coyle) told me to go and play my football and be confident. He wanted me to run at the defenders and take them on, so that's what I tried to do.
"I could have got a goal but the goalkeeper made a good save. If I had scored then everything would be more positive. Next time I'm sure I can score.
"As a team, we passed and moved the ball better after half-time but the result wasn't good."
Miyaichi, who took in a loan spell at Feyenoord last season, added: "I have to keep doing what I did against Wigan and hopefully I can get into the team from the start of matches.
"It's not going to be easy. I'm learning every day."
