Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed West Ham have submitted a bid for winger Rachid Ghezzal.

L'Equipe reported on Wednesday that the Hammers have lodged an initial offer of €8m (£6.9m) for the Algerian international.

The 24-year-old impressed for Lyon in Ligue 1 last season as he scored eight goals and assisted on a further seven.

Ghezzal has one year remaining on his current contract with Lyon and Aulas revealed the club are trying hard to extend his deal.

"He wants me to talk with his advisors and so I'm going to call them this week to try to break the deadlock," Aulas told L'Equipe.

"I like Rachid a lot. It would be really good if we might be able to reach an agreement. We have received offers for him, including the one from West Ham.

"I know that Rachid doesn't want to leave Lyon so we have to find an agreement so as not to remain in a situation that's not good for either of the two parties involved."

West Ham have already failed in their bid to lure one Lyon star to east London this summer as the French club turned down their £31m offer for star forward Alexandre Lacazette.
