As part of Support The Ref week on Sky Sports, Danny Higginbotham is put through his paces as he looks to become a referee...
The FA and Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) came together to put on a taster course for former Stoke City player and Sky Sports pundit Higginbotham.
Higginbotham was asked to referee a youth game, watched by Chris Foy (former Premier League referee and now head of Community and Public Engagement for PGMOL) and Trevor Massey (former Premier League assistant referee and now assistant referee coach for the FA and PGMOL).
How do you become a ref?
Anyone can become a referee with The FA granted that you are at least 14 years old and a resident of England.
To train as an FA-qualified referee, you need to undertake a basic referee course with your local County FA. To find a course near you, click here. Alternatively, you can contact your County FA directly.
For more information on what you need to do to become a referee and what the Basic Referees Course entails, see the document at the bottom of the page for more specific FAQs.
