West Ham boss David Moyes says the club is in a good position following their 1-1 draw against Stoke

David Moyes felt West Ham were unfortunate not to get more than just a point from their 1-1 draw with Stoke, which he said left his side in a "good position" to stay in the Premier League.

Andy Carroll rescued a 90th-minute draw for the Hammers after Peter Crouch had punished Joe Hart's error with a close-range finish, which looked to have pulled the visitors to within four points of West Ham in the table.

But on a night where his side had three goals chalked out, two for offside and a third for a Carroll handball, Moyes was pleased with his players' performance.

He told Sky Sports: "I thought we played really well. We played good in parts of the game, it was just the fact we went one behind, because if anyone was going to score first I thought it would be us.

"We got the ball well out of the back, we just didn't have something different up front. But we did on the bench, I thought all the subs who came on made a big difference, we've not had that very often and I'm very pleased to get them back."

Carroll's introduction just after Stoke had taken a 79th-minute lead would turn out to be the right call from Moyes, who resisted any temptation to recall the striker - who had been missing with a fractured foot since January 4 - earlier in the game.

He added: "We didn't need to make subs, we were playing well and in their half, I thought the goal would come and I thought we could score late on. The minute we went a goal down, we had to find a way of doing things differently.

"I've seen a couple of the goals that were ruled out and it looks like the right call. I haven't seen the one for the Carroll handball, but Michael [Oliver] had a good game.

"We're in a good position, a lot better than when I came in, and it's a good point in the end. Going behind, we could have come away with nothing and the points we've picked up recently will help us.

"We've had good results against the big sides and let's see if we can do that again, but our performances have been getting better and normally that leads to good results, and with a win and two draws from our last three, that's not too bad."
