Alexis Sanchez was left out of Manchester United's squad to face Tottenham on Sunday because he has yet to fully recover from a hamstring injury, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed.

Sanchez travelled with the rest of the United squad for a five-day warm-weather training trip to Dubai this week but failed to prove his fitness ahead of Sunday's game at Wembley.

"He is not ready yet, no," the United caretaker boss said.

"Hopefully I think he will be training when we get back, maybe Wednesday he will be full training. It is just one of those blows.

"He is just having a hard time getting rid of it [the injury] so hopefully next week maybe he can be involved."

Dominic Fifield told Sunday Supplement the timing of the Manchester United job is not right for Gareth Southgate, but it could be a possibility in the future.

The Chile international sustained a hamstring injury and was forced to limp off during United's 2-0 win over Reading in the FA Cup on December 5.
