Andreas Weimann is hoping manager Paul Lambert stays at Aston Villa, saying: "There’s no reason for him not to be here."

Villa have had an indifferent season, and only secured their Premier League status on Saturday when a 3-1 home win over Hull City moved them on to 38 points and up to 14th place.

Lambert's troops have won just 10 of their 36 league games so far, and travel to Manchester City on Wednesday night.

They have lost 18 times and Saturday's win over the Tigers, in which Weimann netted a double, ended a six-match winless run featuring five defeats and a draw.

Villa chairman Randy Lerner is set to make an announcement on his future plans at the end of the season, with rumours of a potential takeover circulating Villa Park.

Whatever happens with the club's hierarchy, Wiemann hopes that Lambert remains at the helm, with the Scot having given the Austrian his break in the first team.

"There’s no reason for him not to be here," Weimann told the Birmingham Mail. "It’s been difficult, the last couple of months, but only for the last six games when we started losing.

“Before that we were sitting in 10th so we were doing okay. He gave me the chance last year and I’ve played pretty much every game this year so I like it."

Weimann, 22, has made 31 appearances this season, scoring six goals in all competitions.
